OT: Need some help...

…because of my need to drive back and forth to NJ over the last two weekends (having to do with my parents’ issues) I’ve fallen way behind on building Tyler’s Pinewood Derby car. I have no idea what I should use for paint on it, and I need to pick that up on the way home. I pass a Lowes and Michaels, along with a LHS. What would everyone suggest I use?

Krylon for a solid color, it dries fast. Acrylics if doing multi colors, fast dry and easy cleanup.

We’re planning on doing a blue solid coat with a green stripe up the middle, and with a little lightening bolt that will be orange with black stripes on each side (everyone in our den is doing that to identify our den). I plan to put the first coat on tonight - the race is being held on Saturday.

I think my Dad and I always used a Krylon type spray paint. We’d let the first coat dry for a day and then mask for the stripes. The blue release masking tape will help protect the undercoat. If you run short on time you can cut the drying time by putting it under an incandescent lamp. Not too close or your pinewood derby car will really have flames!

Good luck w/ the project and the race. I’m 42, an Eagle Scout, and still have my winning car on display.
