[#offtopic]Yesterday was a bit too dreary and cold here in Aurora for lenthly trainwatching (since, in order to be warm and comfortable watching trains for any length of time, I would need to burn mucho gasoline) and so after about 90 minutes of watching trains at Eola [:D](including seeing Amtrak #4 come through pretty much on time in addition to seeing a run through with a duo of units consistign of a SD70ACe and a SD40-2T tunnel motor[:O]) I went home, picked up my wife [:X] and we went to the local $3 movie theater and saw that Borak movie.
[2c] Now, I have seen some pretty bad movies in my day but Borak tops the all time “worst movies of all time” list in my book [xx(] . The producers of that piece of trash should be ashamed of themselves, but not as much as the folks who gave the movie and its “actors” some awards already [B)] .
It is one thing to enlist ordinary people to act in your dumb movie, but the makers of this film USED ordinary folks in ways that made them look really, really stupid (like the college frat guys in the motor home or the poor elderly Jewish couple who own the bed and breakfast place Borak spends the night in) [|(].
Would anybody else who may have seen this piece of crud like to comment [soapbox] ?
Saw the movie, and I guess I didn’t really care for it. I don’t know that I would claim the ‘actors’ in the movie were unwilling participants…When a guy comes in with a camera and starts filming you at some point you should figure out what you do and say will be on film. I never would have let the guy into my place to begin with. Not the worst movie of all time, but certainly a far cry from being the best.
What I have heard is that the folks putting the movie together went to most (with the possible exception of the college frat boys) of the eventual participants and told them Borat was REALLY a reporter from Kazakhstan filming a documentary for his country and that put them at ease and willing to be filmed. Wow, were they ever fooled!
Thank God it was only six bucks for the two of us or I would REALLY have been ticked off (our “first run stadium type seating” theater charges $9 (each)!
It would be like me going to watch Brokeback Mountain. Im am not homosexual (not a knock in anyway, to each their own) so I would not find the movie entertaining.
The older generation just doesnt like the same kind of movies kids my age do. Simple as that, but no reason to bash movies that dont cater to your genre.
Corncob is right, my opinion is indeed my own and not intended to be imposed on anybody else at all. If anybody is so inclined to see this movie, be my guest and let me know what you think…however I am sad to see people take pleasure in seeing “regular folks” deliberately embarrassed in such a movie…I can’t help but wonder if Borat came to Duluth and embarrassed Corncob (or one of his family or friends) in the same juvenile way if he (Corncob) would feel the same?
