Just more proof that it is better to take your pictures with a flash…

LOL! that’s a good one![(-D]
Geez!!! Couldn’t you have used software to lighten the picture? Just kidding.
To get this back on topic I tried to use software to lighten an image I scanned from a badly underexposed Kodachrome 10 slide (the first slide I ever took) of the B&O’s National Limited eastbound out of Silver Spring, MD back in 1951. I did manage to lighten and sharpen the image somewhat, but not as much as I had hoped for. This is not a criticism of the software I used, but that there is a limit to what any software can do to improve a photograph.
LOL This never really had a topic to start with, It was just a funny thing that I wanted to share [:P]
I think you may have missed the joke from the start… Compare the pics a bit closer…
I was thinking about flash photography last night and it’s related to trains (can you believe that?):
What if Winston O. Link was alive today and set up all his flash photography next to a rail line and then, one night set them off for one of his (now) famous photos? How many law enforcement folks do you think would show up in the aftermath?
That is supposed to be a “Fill in Flash” isn’t it?!?![(-D][(-D]
smacks Miniwyo with a comic book. [:o)][wow][(-D]
Link did most, if not all of his shots with the cooperation of the N&W, so I’d guess that the crews usually had some knowledge that they were about to be lit up with several million candlepower’s worth of flash bulbs.
With today’s increased paranoia levels, I think I’d recommend any would be OWLs to follow the same path and OK it with the railroad first.
Nevermind the law enforcement, consider all the reflective safety stripping of today and think of how it will ruin any flash-enhanced photo today.

…I appreciate someone who can setup and control his flash lighting taking a night picture such as a time shot in conjunction with a flash, but for my liking…{if it is possible}, I like the looks of available light photos. I realize that is not always possible.
Some time back one of the fellows, either Mike or Erik had a pic of an engine standing {at night}, and just the lights such as those lighting the steps up into it and a few others…{small lights}…I thought was one of the nicest photos so far in the Mike and Erik series of photos.
No flash, if I remember correctly, just a good time exposure and it was a beauty in my eyes. That even brought out the sky and made it look like morning was actually on the way…Photo had real, realistic look to it.
Look Gary Knapp up on Google and you will see he does exactly what you put out in the Link hypothetical. He gets some amazing stuff, too.

'Twas Eric. It received my vote.
Nice flash picture.
As long as we’re sharing photos of our loved ones, here’s a picture of my pride and joy:
