We got a glazed ceramic Christmas tree with hundreds of holes to let the central 40W bulb light show through as simulated lights. In these holes are set transparent plastic doves, stars, Etc. in various colors. The are not sticking in place. There are a lot of them. What can I use to set these critters in place permenently?
I used a gel type super glue when I fixed all the loose ones on my 2 trees this year. The gell type doesnt run everywhere like the liquid does. I have used the special glue from the craft store that is supposed to be for these trees, but it didnt work any better than my gel superglue. I just put a bead around the part that seats down in the hole, stick it in place and leave it alone for awhile. Take the time to upgrade your tree to a compact florscent light bulb, much less heat. With a 40wt bulb after a few hours the tree would be quite warm to hot to the touch, I put a 13wt CFL in it and barely warm. We use the tree as a night light now in the hallway during the holidays. Cheers Mike
Bruce, my wife made and painted up one of those maybe 26 years ago now. We broke the ceramic base within a couple of years, but only in two. I had just plumbed in a central vac with the 2" PVC tubing, sealing it with MEK, the clear goop in a smallish tin. I used the tin of MEK applicator (twisted wire with a ball of something fuzzy on the end) to swipe one side of the break, and placed the two halves together. They have been securely bonded every since. So, if you should ever break the ceramic components, you know what to do.
As for the lights, we have always removed them and stored them in a small bag with the tree packed in foam popcorn. In thinking of your question, I also would try “Goop” from Canadian Tire or maybe a clear silicone caulking. Note that Goop is found in the adhesives section at CT, and there are at least four different kinds. I have used “Marine” with success for many MRR and non-MRR purposes.
