Strange, when I came to the site tonight (I had been on earlier in the day without issues) I was told I had to unlock my screen name or create a new one.
Have we had a visit from someone not behaving well again? [;)]
You ran your train into an occupied block, passed the red signal and ignored the dispatcher, thats 2 demerits, a slap on the wrist and a reset of your username…bub!!!
A couple of times in the past few weeks I have come on line and I get the
message and I have to go through the process of telling Trains.com who I am so I can get back on line; this always happens - and I expect it to happen - after I have reset cookies but these incidents are just happening randomly. Maybe we are being visited by the
Maybe our “buddy” [:(!] is trying to hack your password. He likes to spoof others and would like nothing more than to get a hold of someone’s ID. Think of the chaos that would cause here. On some sites, if you enter the wrong password after so many times the account is temporarily locked.
It sounds like it might be a Phishing attack in an attempt to steal your password. What good that would do anyone, I don’t really know. I’ve never had a message like that come up. Maybe you need to ask Kalmbach what it might be, since it’s happening on their server.
About a month ago someone came up on the forum using a screenname with two letters reversed from the screenname of one of our more prolific responders here. Then he posted a prodigous amount of garbage which threw a bunch of people for a loop and cast a disparaging shadow over the character of the legitimate member; you had to look twice at the monikers to understand what was going on! I have exchanged personal message correspondence with the legitimate member on a number of occasions and could not imagine that he would be generating the type of garbage which was being infused into the forum by the fake.
I thought about that too but the way it was set up sort of dissuaded me that it was a phishing trip.
I was able to view all the forums and posts, just not respond to any. Just like when I clear the cookies and have to re-log in.
And the way the unlocking worked was very slick, I did not have to enter anything even though I could not remember my password. I clicked a link, a new password was sent to my e-mail. And in the e-mail was another link than when clicked, automatically unlocked my user name. At no time did I have to enter any info. So I doubt it was a phishing attack and as noted, what would they gain? The e-mail account I use for sites like this is a free internet one, not my main ISP account so no issues of getting my e-mail address for spam lists.
Just rather puzzling and it sounds like I might have been the only one.
I will ask the powers that be, just to make sure there is nothing funny going on.
I’ve seen this happen before but it’s been a while. It’s probably server related so I wouldn’t be too concerned. If it does happen to any of you, report it. The powers to be can then look into the issue.
