Other Good Forums

I was wondering if there are any other good forums besides the ones on trains.com. If there are could you tell me what they are. I am interested in looking at other forums (although I really like this one!).

I am a member of two other good forums. They are www.railroad.net, and www.railroadforums.com. Trains.com is my favorite. Take care. [:)] Nick

www.fullsizebronco.com and www.pirate4x4.com take a lot of my time.

You mean there are other forums?

[:O]

Mike, I’m with you: I didn’t know there was any other good forums out there[:O][;)]

http://railroadnews.net/

http://www.trainboard.com

http://www.trainorders.com/

http://forums.railfan.net

[oops] I guess I should have said railroad related forums.

Well I only know of one other railroad forum and it is not a very good one so trains.com has the best one I have seen so far. Thanks for the forum recomendations everyone.

railroadforum.com
Railroadforums.com ( it is different from the one above)
trainboard.com
atlasrr.com
the-gauge.com
therailwire.net

for any N scalers out there
Nscale.net
nscale.org

Also, don’t forget the newsgroups:

rec.models.railroad (model railroading)
misc.transport.rail.americas (dicussion)
ne.transportation (New England-only topics)
alt.binaries.pictures.rail (photos)
alt.binaries.multimedia.rail (movies)

If you don’t have NNTP access (or if you don’t know how), the text groups can be accesed through the web at Google’s group browser:

Weather Or No Go New Haven

I just joined railroad.net, which has the variety of subforums that Trains.com should have. I am coming to regret it. There’s one moderator who seems to me to be a little arrogant with his explanation of editing, to say the least. He reminds me of a mod I dealt with on the non-transportation-related board he owned and still owns (this was about 6 years ago).

That moderator is also very trigger happy when it comes to moving threads from one forum to another. railroad.net isn’t too printer friendly either.

It’s like traveling back in time with all the old posts being brought to the top lately![oX)] (Sorry…the Pirate Smiley gets used so little other than at Halloween, that I just figured it would be a good representation of “the past.” [:D]

I would Guess, that my questions are WHY? And Why not stick with the best?[^]

Another good one is trainweb.com. They have a good Amtrak thread.

Ain’t that the truth… those moderators are in love with their padlocks. Some of them also have NO sense of humor. I’ve had signatures and avatars removed. They weren’t offensive, but poked fun at their love affair with masterlock.

They do have a good group of people from the NE who are knowledgeable about Amtrak. Unfortunately, I think their choice of moderators will be the death of them.

This site just runs so much smoother.

The moderators of the Amtrak forum at railroad.net are a piece of work.

They know little about Amtrak as an operational entitiy to begin with, and even less about its operation in the northeast. One moderator in particular drones on and on and on as to why Amtrak is even allowed to exist through subsidies, while at the same time pontificating that he supports passenger rail. And yes, as previously mentioned, if you disagree with anything that they post, you wind up at the very least very heavily edited, or worse having your posts deleted or your thread locked.

There are much better forums than the Amtrak forum at railroad.net

I totally agree in avoiding Railroad.net’s AMtrak forum, or any other forum that is moderated by Erik Halstead.

Like other’s here have mentioned regarding the Amtrak forum at Railroad.net, if you disagree, you make his list and you will be either locked, edited, deleted, etc. That’s the problem with many message groups. There are too many people moderating that have little real knowledge about a particular subject, and once they have been proven wrong on a particular thread, that person takes offense and takes on an “oh yeah, I’ll show you” attitude. They only end up showing their childish side and have proven something about themselves, they need to grow up!

There are several Yahoo groups out there, some have moderators like I have mentioned above, others have great moderators that are open to discussion and don’t get wrapped up in the childish BS that other groups have.

Anyway, some of the previous replies to this thread have good forums to join. Just do the reasearch and pick one that’s right for you.

Later Doodz!

Not only do they heavily edit you, they fail to give good cause as why they do it. Sometimes no notice at all. And should you disagree with them, they just don’t bother to reply at all. The same attitude as that twit who runs Trainodors.kom. About the only time Toad will bother to return your messages is when he wanted money.

I must also agree on the comments of Harry about the dim wits who moderate RR.net’s Amtrak forum. For years one of them never put in a just word about Amtrak, and could care less if it folded. Now he moderates the forum. And it seems, if you do not live in the NorthEast, you have no right to comment about anything at all. So heavily regionalized are these boards, this being the only exception, that they could care less about anything else outside their little world.

Welcome to the TRAINS.com forums, Loki! You’ll find we’re all a bunch of knowledgable, respectful experts-and never is heard a discouraging word…
