WOW 100+ snow village building that’s amazing , in a good way.

Thanks, I use selected ones on my Christmas Layouts.

Dept. 56?

Correct. Department 56 makes 8 different core “Villages” plus a lot of licensed buildings. The “Original Snow Village” was the Village line that started it all and works best with semi realistic S gauge.
Some are pictured below. All the vehicles and people are 1/64th scale.

That’s why when I had to move I decided to keep only my Plasticville buildings.

those are really nice and they do look good with s gauge.

Seems to me I see old Kalmbach softcover books at model railroad flea markets or at RR club shows / sales for reasonable prices - if you aren’t obsessed with “like new” quality. I have some that are old library books that have been sold by the library. Check your county library website, often they have one particular library they send all their old books to to sell.

I still have all the books I had as a kid plus all of my father’s books on railroading topics as well.

Library is a good idea never thought of, our’s sells out of print old books at least twice a year. thanks wjstix

Our library sells books that have not been read a length of time. I bought three MR books 10p (11cents) each.

I have been cleaning out my basement.

Anyone need any Visual Basic programming books?

Books on DOS?

At one time, my wife and I had four villages - New England, Christmas in the City, Snow Village and North Pole. We quickly became overwhelmed with setup time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, we sold off three of the villages and now have only North Pole.

Department 56 started at the Bachman’s Garden Store in Richfield MN, a few blocks from where I grew up. Long ago, when Richfield was way out in the country, Bachman’s was served by the Minneapolis Northfield and Southern Ry., on the ‘high line’ that is now operated by Progressive Rail and has been in MR articles a couple of times.

As long as we are on the subject of Dept 56, I gotta post a photo of my favorite Snow Village scene. I actually renamed Snow Village to North Woods based upon my own personal collection.

I was hoping never to see those three letters again. I was getting an advanced degree, and part of the final was using a computer with the three letters [redacted] to finish a project. A piece of cake for the younger members of the class, a nightmare for me.

Programming in DOS, one of life’s finer pleasures.

For small simple tasks, DOS was a relatively easy environment for programming, especially is the output was supposed to be in text or numeric. For larger tasks, the limitations of the 8086/8088 (i.e. 64K segments) got to be painful.

OTOH, I have a copy of Basic Steam Locomotive Maintenance in my collection, so a book on DOS isn’t all that strange…

The early personal computers forced us to learn DOS to do certain tasks.

I like the North Woods Rich, verry nice.

Thanks. I only have one collection currently and that is North Pole. When Dept 56 started going crazy, producing different colored buildings from the same molds, I stopped buying. So, my North soils collection is all vintage.
