Out of touch for a bit

I have been having bad nose bleeds for about three weeks now and am going into the hospital Monday for sinus surgery to correct things (I hope!) so you folks may not see me posting for a bit. Any prayers you may have available you can send my way would be appreciated as I am kind of scared as I have never had surgery in my life except for tonsil removal as a kid and this is going to be general anesthesia. Thanks to you all.

Jim,
Not to sweat it to much…
All three of my kids did the tonsils, adenoids and ear tubes deal, all under a general.
All three are A OK… (Well, two of them are, the third one was kinda weird to begin with!)

If your tonsils are gone, then you already have been there, done that.

Your ENT has done this hundreds of times, I am sure, so sit back and enjoy all the ice-cream you can con the wife and kids out of!

Will be thinking of you, and hoping it works out the way you need it to…

Eolafan, I’m sure you’ll be just fine; but will keep you in our prayers!! Prayers
never hurt any of us.

Hey i had the same exact procedure done on my nose, and all they do is put anesthisia in your nose and then carterize the tissue. It is a relatively simple surgery, really not even a surgery in my book. I have not had a single nose bleed for 2 years. You will be happy when it is done.

Yep, I had that procedure (called an endoscopy) two weeks ago and it held the nose bleeds off for two weeks and then WHAM. This time going under general anesthesia and a more aggressive search for the cause and likely a larger cauterization of the blood vessel causing the problem. I will definetly be a star in the house for about a couple of days then they will wonder when I will get off of the couch (which I will be happy to do as I get bored easily). Thanks to you all for your thoughts and encouragment.

I had it done in both of my nostrils. I was in a little pain after i was finished because of me sneezing, and trying to blow my nose

Jim
will keep you in our prayers for a speedy recovery.
stay safe

Ya know, if ya play the “I’m a little dizzy and light headed” bit real well, they will even bring you dinner onthe couch, and let you have the TV remote, for a while, anyway!

Don’t turn down the pain medication…

The only thing I am concerned about is who is going to keep track of the train movements in and out of Eola while you are gone.

But I know where you are coming from. I had tonsils removed at age six and the next use of a general was over 50 years later for a type of exam that is not for discussion on a trains forum. Piece of cake. I am sure your Doc will take care of you and we’ll see you back here right quick.

Hope things go well for you, and trust that visiting the Forum would be one of the less strenuous things you could do after surgery. Speedy recovery!

I had two procedures done with general anesthetics last year (after nearly 50 years without). Was kind of loopy for a day after each one.

Jim, best of luck to you. Are you at Copley or Mercy? I got to know a lot of the nurses at Copley when my dad was sick. Both places are top notch hospitals, though, and will treat you well. Good luck on a speedy recovery! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Good luck & hopefully a very quick recovery! [:p]

Oh, yea, I have a perscription for thirty Vicodin pills with one refill, that should get me through this. I took two last night and boy did I sleep soundly! Well, by this time tomorrow I should be on the mend (finally!). I will report back after I am a bit less “loopy” as one of you put it.

No problem Jim, I hope everything goes well and the procedure cures ya.[8D]

Well, as many predicted not as big a deal as I had expected. Still mighty sore from breathing tube down my throat and nose being operated on but vicodin is helping a lot. Arrived at surgery centre at 7:30 and even though they had me under general anesthesia I was back at home by Noon. Doctor says sleep but I am not all that sleepy but bet it will hit me later. Doctor says I may be back trackside by end of week reporting on the Eola action to you all. I guess I am just a whuss at heart but I was really scared. You should have seen all the folks there for operations today. It was like an assembly line business.

I will let you know tomorrow how I am feeling, but lest I forget to thank all of you who have sent me encouragement…THANKS GANG!

Don’t feel bad about being a wuss–enjoy your brief time as the center of attention in your household!

I guess the most important question is, was the problem solved? Hope so.

Well It’s good to hear you made it.[;)]

[#ditto] lets just hope it just a sinus problem and nothing else

[tup] Yep, the CT scan and blood tests came back normal per my doctor, so here’s keeping my fingers crossed nothing else happens.
