Overhead Layout Questions.

Hello all,

I am planning on putting up an overhead layout in my son’s bedroom (13.5’ x 9.5’) I am using LGB R2 corners. I was wondering if it be a bad decision to run the USA Trains J1e Hudson overhead using R2 corners? According to the GR review: “The locomotive will negotiate #1500 curves, but looks pretty awful doing it.” Just curious if any one has seen one on R2?

I’d also like to know if it would be silly to have such a heavy train hanging from the ceiling? I was also considering the same MTH Locomotive. It would be considerably lighter, but I am not a big fan of the detailing. Both models claim they can run on R2… but will the locomotive or the passenger cars cut the corners?

I have never heard the Phoenix Sound system… How does it compare to Proto-Sound 2.0?

Any other input would be appreciated.

To be frankly honest i would steer clear of running such a large locomotive as a 4-6-4 on those tight curves. not only will it look bad but derailments i’m sure will be the norm’ better to use a short wheel based engine such as a porter 0-4-0 ’ certainly nothing bigger than a 4-4-0 american.

As to sound systems Phoenix sound is very good if a bit pricey also sierra sound is very good and a choice of many serious garden railroaders.check their websites for information and sound bites. you didn’t say your son’s age but i would assume he’s rather young so keep in mind that nothing cause’s loss of interest faster than trains that don’t perform well.
