Overland Brass CP Rail ES44AC

Hello All,

I just purchased an Overland Brass CP Rail ES44AC recently. As I have yet to install a DCC decoder in it, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the locomotive runs and what the pros and cons are of this locomotive. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. What would be a good DCC decoder to installl in this locomotive?

Thanks,

Nad

Nad…

I’m not familar with Overlands ES44AC model but i’m sure it is very well done.

As far as a decoder, it will depend on whether or not OMI provides a 8-pin NMRA connection - if so, then any 8-pin function decoder will work.

If the model is not set up or ‘DCC ready’, then you will have to chose a decoder like the NCE which you’ll have to hard-wire in - this requires you to isolate the motor in most cases but I’m not sure if this will be nesessary on the OMI -I’d have to see how its wired.

If you’re wanting Sound, then my choice would be the Tsunami by SoundTraxx, which is coming after the first of the year. Make sure you get the Universal decoder. which is actually designed to handle more than 1 amp (ATU1000) I believe is the correct nomenclature but I would recommend checking with Jerrett at SoundTraxx to be sure.

Good luck with your project and have fun!

hi, when was it made? The later models that came with the blue box were all dcc ready and they were equipped with the 9-pin socket. You just need to remove 8 screws from the bottom and the body will come off easily.

It comes in the blue box. So I just have to remove the eight screws and plug the decoder of my choice into the 9-pin socket?

Thanks,

Nad

yes just get a 9-pin dcc decoder and remove the DC jumper from the decoder socket. anyway enjoy your purchase as OMI locos expecially the latest models look and run great.
