I recently came across the opportunity to purchase an NJCB version of the UP three-unit coal turbine loco #80. While it’s a decent looking model, it differs quite a bit from the photos of the real thing that I’ve seen. Also, when comparing to the Overland Models version, the Overland appears to be much closer to the real thing in appearance. The most significant differences on the NJCB version seem to occur on the center unit. There is an abundance of mesh screen over various areas on the NJCB model, and the overall layout of the various openings is different than what I’ve seen in photographs of the real thing, and also in comparison to the Overland model. Is this just outright inaccuracy on the NJCB model, or is NJCB modeling #80 from a different time period with a different config? There are pics on the internet of the NJCB model and the Overland model. Both are on a merchant site and I was hesitant to post links due to forum rules. You can google NJCB coal turbine and OMI coal turbine. Any help would be appreciated.
