I know that Overland has imported some extremely limited stuff such as bridges and structures, but I had no idea they imported ship models. Was this the only maritime model they imported, and if now, what other maritime models did they release? I have seen some other companies online that build brass ship models, and will even do custom work, but it is very expensive (and VERY nice). Compared to some of those guys, this doesn’t seem like a bad buy.
Smitty - While I really can’t offer any info regarding other Overland marine models, I would mention that I alluded to brass items outside the realm of simply brass locomotives in the recent thread asking about what makes brass locomotives so great. I suspect that folks here don’t have the least inkling of the high end brass market that exists beyond trains. As you imply, that Erie tugboat with a Buy It Now price of $1250 is a real bargain, as such models go. I’ve seen warships in the price range of $10,000 to $20,000 , as well as airplane and automobile models in the multiple thousands of dollars category. There are definitely companies out there specializing in various sorts of brass non-railroad models for wealthy customers.
I have posted a link to this site before on the forum: http://www.maritimereplicas.com/ . They even have done entire ports. If you want a scale container ship, this is the place to have it done for you (far all you lottery winners). Emma Maersk would be a heck of a model in HO!!
