P1K C-Liner

I asked these questions on the DCC section, but I think I’ll get a better response here. Forgive me. Does someone make a good DCC/sound decoder for a C-liner? Im going to get aP1K A and B unit and want to install sound. Are these P1k C-liners good runners? I noticed from pictures the the holes are predrilled for details, but are the details included in the box? Thanks for any info you can provide.

I can not offer any DCC thoughts but the units themselves are very nice. Good runners for sure. All the details come in the box, they just need to be added by the purchaser. I am very happy with the 4 I have, all CP.

SFATW,

This might help.

The C-Liners, depending upon specific model, were equipped with Fairbanks Morse’s versatile 38 series diesel in 8, 10, and 12 cylinder versions.

I know for sure that Soundtraxx offers a Fairbanks Morse diesel Tsunami. I’m assuming that QSI and LokSound ESU may have FM sound schemes as well, but you’d have to check.

Thanks for the info! It will be nice to hear something different than the ole 567’s on the layout. Additional question…wheres a place that has good prices on Tsunami’s?

I have a NYC P1K C-Liner non-DCC equipped; But I’ll chime in to say that it is an extremely good runner with excellent slow speed ability> The only thing I’de say I don’t particularly like is that the headlight has a yellowish tinge to it. But that might only be my unit. Don’t know if others have that anomaly>

Here’s what Bruce has as far as Tsunami prices:

Zip him an email or call him with any questions you may have. He’s pretty good about responding.

The P1K C-liners run well. I installed NCE DA-SR decoders in my A-B-A set (MILW 28 A-B-C).

They come with the usual P2K upside-down 8-pin plug. I took that out and wired up the decoder. Used electrical tape to make a shelf to hold it out of the moving parts after taking the original board out. The LED headlight needs a resistor in line. The DA-SR I used has resistors on the board, just needed to cut a trace. Not sure how the Tsunami board is set up. The QSI board should be ready to go. I think True Line Trains made a run of C-liners with QSI factory sound. Review from January 2007 here(for subscribers).

The details come in the box. Made of Delrin or similar, they stay in pretty good, but hard to glue into place. Kadee couplers slip into the boxes, at the correct height, and right about 36" spacing rear-to-rear.

My model of CF16-4 (I think) NYC 6603 is the best-running model I own. P1K, it operates smoothly and surpasses much brass.
