P1K detail going down?

As I was flipping through the nov. MR over the weekend, I looked at an ad for a cab unit, that I can’t quite remember the details of. What I do remember, though, is that it had moulded on grab irons that aren’t seperated from the body, instead of the usual ones you apply. Is this a sign of the takeover by Walthers? Do you think it will keep up?

That’s what Proto 1000 was always all about - same drive trains with simpler bodies. That’s why the also offered Proto 2000, with all of the added details and added costs.

But my trio of P1K C-Liners has grab irons, and I don’t see any difference in price.

Life Like was somewhat inconsistent however, in their P1K/P2K differences.
Witness the P1K Alco RS11. It had some of the nicest detail available in
HO and yet it was a P1K.

P The P1K line was SUPPOSED to have the same decent Life Like drive train, with a nicely molded shell without add-on details. The F3’s and original RS-2’s came that way. Then for some reason, the P1K line started coming with seperate details, like on the RS-11. I have no idea why LL changed their mind about the P1K line, and the pricing was about the same.

Hopefully, Walthers will keep the spirit of the P1K line alive: high quality drives, prototypical shells, and no extra detailing, which will keep the prices lower.

Yeah, I almost forget that my RS10 is P1K, and i always treat it like P2K! Amazing what they did on that one, with the sound now…

The engine in the magazine I think was either their F3 or their Erie Built. Those have always had cast on details.
