Well, today I recieved my P2K Conrail SD60M that I won on ebay last friday. It’s an AWESOME loco, has many of the necessary detail parts installed from the box. Only thing I had to put on (and wanted to put on[:p][:I]) was the snow plow.
So anyway, before this locomotive came to my roster, I had a problem on my hands. I have an Athearn RTR Conrail SD50 and an Athearn Genesis UP SD70M that would not MU no matter what I did. I was getting ready to regear the SD50 so it would be as slow as the 70M. Well, not anymore![:)] With the P2K SD60M leading, the SD70M in the middle, and the SD50 in the rear of the lashup, the SD60M and SD70M run their own speed (they are both EXACTLY the same speed) while the SD50 pulls the train. This slows the SD50 down enough so it runs the same speed as the 60M and 70M. WALA! I finally have a modern diesel lash up! Kudo’s to P2K (and Athearn) for making such a great locomotive! Now I can run my manifest freights with 3 locomotives rather than 1!
Well I take it nobody cares, since I only posted this 45 minutes ago and it’s already on page 2. I guess it’ll just go back into the pages of MR forum history, like all my other topics.[sigh]
Yes I am, that’s why now I only MU the SD60M and the SD70M. The SD50 made a grinding noise when it was MU’d, so I figured that wasn’t good so I don’t MU all 3 anymore.
Another reason I need DCC! As I have my benchwork up, Digitrax Zephyr here I come…[:p]
i was gonna say about your mu problems , can’t you adjust the speed tables in the decoders , but i see you’re not running DCC yet . start saving the bucks !
I always like to hear modeling success stories! Glad to hear that you like the SD60M! I have one also, in UP colors. I absolutely love it! Lifelike really came through with their P2K line! I was also haveing a MU issue, but since I converted to DCC, I have no more problems. That is the great thing about DCC, you can set up almost ANY loco to run well with almost ANY OTHER loco. If you are thinking about going to DCC, then I recomend that you do it! You will not be disappointed!
