I just received my DCC P2K 2-8-8-2 last Friday - what an awesome piece of machinery (my first P2K loco). Anyway, after a few senior moments, I got it re-addressed and it runs really well on 22" radius - not so good on 18" but I know I have some questionable trackwork on that loop.
My question is - what exactly does the magic wand do? The instructions weren’t crystal clear to me. I held it in front of my wife and she didn’t turn into Martina McBride…in fairness, I didn’t become Pierce Brosnan either, so, it must have some other purpose with the locomotive. Thanks in advance for your help.
Great engine. Mine runs on 18 inch curves, but I had to fix them all. At 18, they demnd better track work than I was used to. I tried a Hudson the other day, and that did not like my 18s.
The magic wand is for adjusting things in DC as I understand it. I have never taken mine out of the boxes.
It may be an audio mute. My advice is to power it up and pass the wand over the tender, which is most likely where the sensor is. Let us know what happens. On second thought, check the manual. The wand may be a “reset to factory defaults” thing. You probably don’t want to do that.
In a PK2 0-6-0 Heritage from Walthers the magnetic wand is for up or down the sound level, and for reset the DCC parameters to factory set. I pass it over the tender, as per instructions. Please, re read it. Bye.
