In 1958/1959/1960 SP 4626 was regular power for the El Centro-Plaster City job adding one more road to the list: the SD & AE.

Hello, I would guess the engine must be in bad shape? Wondering why U. P. didn’t OK movement of the engine to the Sunol interchange track?

The locomotive is probably equipped with plain wheel bearings; without roller bearings the locomotive cannot be interchanged per ICC/STB mandate.
Richmond Pacific maintains it’s locomotive fleet quite well: this is not the only former RPRC locomotive to “graduate” to an operating railroad museum for preservation.
