Are these two Mallet locomotives the Only TANK ENGINES in service? Remember, a Mallet type loco is in service on the Union Pacific. The one and only 3985.
I believe UP 3985 can run both simple and compound. It doesn’t have those massive low-pressure cylinders you normally see on the front ‘engine’ of a Mallet. So I guess that means technically it’s not a Mallet?
