Moving and need advice about packing my HO structures. Most are Bar Mills and AMB. Any thoughts ?
I would use these, they are tough, the lids snap on solidly and they don’t collapse like the Rubbermaid ones if something lands on top of them. $10.00ca at Costco is a small investment for precious models.
The totes mentioned above plus,
Lots and lots of wadded up toilet paper.
Stuff it everywhere.
We have those plastic containers and swear by them.
Bubble wrap or the foam peanuts too for packing.
The more rigid the totes are the better. I bought really high quality ones from the container store when I moved my models, which I now use to store welding equipment. Don’t just buy cheap ones from the home improvement store. if they’re too flexible, something may push against the side and break off delicate pieces.
If you can, glue the base of the model to the interior bottom of a box.
A water soluble glue such as white glue is best.
Using this method, the model is secured to the box bottom with the box walls protecting it without any packing materials contacting the model and potentially damaging details.
Once at the destination, some water can dissolve the glue to remove the model from the bottom of the box.
Of course, you’ll still want to handle the box gently during the move.
You can glue the models to cardboard and put them in totes, I had really fragile ones. I bubble wraped and peanuts and some foam blocking, all of which were free as I had been saving those items when I purchached stuff or people I knew purchaced stuff.
