Paducah & Louisville train derails with hazmat
The Louisville TV Stations had a problem determining which railroad this morning in reporting the derailing. Several of them referred to the operating railroad as CSX. The CSX line to Evansville commonly referred to as the “Texas” is a short distance from the P&L Railway’s derailment site and and has a level crossing with the line at West Point. Fortunately there no injuries, fatalities or explosions.
Two days following this incident one worker was burned over 90 percent of his body while two others were burned not as severely. It has taken one week now for the local residents to be allowed to return to their homes. What’s ironic is that this is the second such derailment in the same general area in quite recent years in which people were not allowed back into their homes for days, schools closed, and – for this one – an average of 45,000 vehicles daily rerouted. Should this prompt an investigation maybe, possibly more intense than usual? It seems like something’s going on in that part of the freight world.
