I have an HO scale GP38-2 that I’m getting ready to paint for my freelanced railroad that’s set in southern Nebrraska and would like to use the team colors for the paint scheme. I use Dupl-Color paint almost exclusively for non railroad colors and was wondering
what in that brand would be a close match to the scarlet and cream used for the team colors. Also, does anyone make Cornhusker decals small enough to apply to the loco’s long hood below the radiator grilles? Thanks for any help.
I’d think that Santa Fe’s red would be pretty close and I thougtht that the cream was pretty close to a straight white. As for the decals you’d probably have to make your own.
Thanks for the info… The white, I have. Hopefuly I have a red that closely matches AT&SF red, closest hobby shop with RR colors is an hour-and-a-half away :^( As for thedecals, I’ll figure something out, I almost always do.
Try looking for some Omaha, Lincoln and Beatrice RR decals. OLB had some football helmets on their cars.
The other option is to make a pilgrimage to Lincoln and visit the bookstore to look for decals. Or scan an “N” and print the decals on white paper.
You really should be modeling in Europe because a GP engine there would be a Bo-Bo type. *-)
Have you considered modeling the prototype Nebraska Central Railroad? Their locomotives are red with white lettering and trim. Oddballs decals sells locomotive decals for this railroad.
Might even be worth it to see if Nebraska has anything painted up. Its an odd, long shot but Penn State’s Erie campus (not far from where GE builds locomotives) has the cab of an AC4400CW on campus for some EE class to use for something. Its in PSU colors and logos.
Thanks again, everyone for your tips and suggestions. To go into furher detal, my freelanced shortline RR, the Trexler & Charleston RR is based on the idea of a shortline operating on a shoestring budget. I built a high short hood on the GP38-2 for the story being it was a former Southeren Ry. unit that was bought cheap bcause no one wanted it as it set up to be operated long hood forward, so my RR was able to afford to buy it and is willing to run it as.-is. I also have an Athearn GP9 that I’m going to say was an old N&W engine that was in storage for many years, again, nbody wanted to tackle the job of moving the control stand to the `right’ side of the cab and cutting down the nose, allowing the RR to acquire it within budget as well. I hope everyone had a good Christmas and thanks for reading.
You want to use the same red as the Minneapolis & St Louis used. Evidently, one of the presidents of the Louie was a Nebraska grad and changed the paint scheme to reflect his alma mater.
Besides the OLB decals mentioned ealier, there have been some unique things painted for NU including a racecar and that may be a source.
Of course this is coming from someone who lives in Nebraska but barely tolerates the home team[(-D]
