Does anyone know what color RDG (or any other anthracite road for that matter) used on their 4 wheel cabooses in the 1910 timeframe?
Most east-coast bobbers were boxcar red (red oxide). Some, like the W&LE, were yellow (as were many southwestern cabooses), while a very few were a more brilliant, “caboose” red.
You’d be surprised at how few caboses were actually painted red before the Depression.
The class XMa and XMb cabooses would have either been a bright red or a boxcar red. I haven’t seen any accurate color renditions from that era. From the black and white photos of the time I can’t make out a major difference from the car colors. Personally I am painting mine a brighter red. There were two different types of P&R bobbers (they were Philadelphia and Reading in 1910) There is the three window type that had a cleristory roof (cut down the roof of a MDC shorty passenger car to just cover the body with no overhang over the platforms) and a two window type that has a cupola.

One other thing, on Yahoo Groups there is an EarlyRail group that has modelers dedicated to pre-WW1 modeling.
Check out Art Griffin Decals too, hundreds of 1890-1930 era decals.

Wow… I could spend the next several weekends just exploring EarlyRail. Neat stuff… and just up my alley too. Thanks for the lead!
