We have a company in Calgary that will put your own custom mix of colors in to spray cans. My problem is the reverse. I have found a color that is perfect, but it only comes in a spray can. I want to get it out of the can and use it in my air brush. I am thinking of holding the can upside down with the button pushed until all the accelerant is used up, then covering it with a towel and using an old pop can opener to make a hole.Any other ideas.
I’ve thought about doing that too. Let us know if it works.
Some years ago, a modeler described how he sprayed Krylon primer into a cup, and then applied it with a brush. I suppose you could do likewise, but I’d be worried about the solvent fumes.
If the color exists as spray paint it should be doable in bottles. If nothing else you can spray a test patch and mix to match on your own using whatever you airbrush with. Another method is to get an auto parts store that supplies body shops to match your test patch though you’ll have to get at least a quart of paint for a custom mix. Oh yeah and make sure you use a primer to keep the auto paint from melting your plastic model if necessary. If athere’s a will, there’s a way. [:)]J.R.
