Project time: Have an old postwar caboose that I’d like to repaint.
What type of paint to use for the metal frame? Would something like Rustoelum work?
And for the shell? (Have no idea. Would like to use a spray.)

Any good paint will work for the metal frame. But the plastic body, now that’s different. Most store bought paint will etch the plastic. It will look like pot marks. Model paints like Testers is the safest way to go, they cost more but hey you want it to look good right. Test the paint on the inside of the body first then wait till it dries before you continue…Jim

Charlies paints don’t dry well on plastics. On metal where you can bake is ok. That is my experience. You can get great train colors in cans by Floquil. Polyscale has a good selection of rail colors too.

Not so sure if the color you need is available, but I’ve had great success with Fusion paint for plastic. When painting anything plastic around the house or shop this stuff works well. The color chart on their site shows the different color chip and there are two different reds. Sun Dried Tomato and Red Pepper.

A quick question about the two Fusion colors you mention. What Lionel train cars do these colors correspond to? Does anyone know? This is very helpful information.
