Paint scheme for Woecster Central RR

Im trying to decide on a paint scheme for my free lance railroad the Worcster Central RR.

Whatever you do, please,… PLEASE don’t do anything CONRAIL"ish". [;)][:P]

Do any scheme you want, btw I’d say CR Blue.

Black with yellow ends and yellow lettering would look better for either a transitional era paint scheme, or for a shortline with a limited budget (black paint is cheap, weathers well and is easy to touch up)

Blue with red ends and white lettering would work as well, but make the red “true red”, and make the blue a bit darker than Conrail blue.

i know I should do what ever I want but those are the three ideas that i have and cant make a decision.
Dougal I was thinking the red and blue like your AS&N. The only change would be both ends painted red and then the white noodle lettering.

orsonroy i like the idea of the dark blue. I like all the paint schemes that i came up with. I was thinking maybe the balck scheme for the first engines painted for the WC

i came up w/ a roster for the WC (All locomotives listed I would need to get)

3 CW40-8 possibley painted in the blue scheme.
3 GP40-2 ex CSX posibley black scheme
10 SD40-2 leased engines
3 C40-8 blue scheme probbably
SD80MAC’s possibley not shure

If the picture comes up it is off the blue w/ red ends. paint scheme

The blue/red scheme isn’t available right now. But I agree that you HAVE to get the two hues right, otherwise, it will look AWFUL. Personally, I think that basic black with some white or yellow highlights is always a good choice.

I decided that Im going to use the black with yellow ends and wet noodle lettering untill i get some experiance painting engines.

the first one to be painted in this scheme is an alcho C424[:D]

Good luck! [:)]

Dougal how do you post a picture? I have a line drawing of the black/yellow scheme that I would like to post.

Since its a drawing I know the perect place to post it: http://forums.railfan.net/forums.cgi?board=RRArt&action=display&num=1085145994

Then go here and type [img ]http://forums.railfan.net/Images/RRArt/nameofthedrawing.gif[ img] without the spaces

Saw your railfan.net post, nice engine!

ConrailGP38-2,

Why not consider using both the black and then blue schemes? For your railroad’s theme: The company is in a paint scheme transition, changing from one to the other.

Look at the prototypes.
There are still red & silver BNSF units running around even though it’s been a couple of years since this railroad has switched over to the “Great Northern Pumpkin scheme” . Fifteen years after the first CSX paint scheme was applied, there were still locomotives in Chessie System and Seaboard schemes running around!

So, when you are successful with painting your locomotive in black, try another one with the blue. If you’re not too joyful about the results, then run it as a unit that has not been
re-painted yet since it’s busy racking up miles for the owner (you).

BTW: Regarding painting.
Are you using an airbrush or another method? What paint brands are you using? Acrylic(water based) or Solvent based? Are you using undecorated shells or are you paint stripping the shells?

Since it sounds like you’re new to painting locomotives, if I may suggest:
Make sure that the surface of your model is “super clean”! Wash with warm water, scrub with a soft toothbrush, and use a gentle soap like Dove or Ivory liquid. Make sure that your hands are very clean also----------Modelers with painting problems sometimes don’t realize that they had just handled their “clean” model with sweaty fingers! The oils and silicone can cause major adhesion problems (been there, done that). No shame in using latex gloves.

Inspite of what the paint bottle may have written about curing: Allow a throrough drying time! Some of us (me too) become impatient and are ready to mask off for the second color just a few hours after painting the first one c

if this works its the black/yellow scheme

AntonioFP45 I was thinking about that. Currently I have an aresol powered airbrush. Im hoping to get a regular airbrush powered by air soon. The airbrush i have now works pretty good. I have very little experiance painting trains but I do paint model cars so i think i can paint the black scheme pretty good.

heres a link to were i posted my black/yellow scheme since i cant get to come up here http://forums.railfan.net/forums.cgi?board=PRNM;action=display;num=1090937558 copy and paste that url and the thread will come up.

Hey Conrail,

I clicked on it and only the roof line and radiator fans open up. Could you check it again?

I’ll check it again later. Sounds like you are going to do well though. Keep us posted!

Cheers!

I got the whole thing up, then again I’m logged into the site.

Its coming up for me but im logged into the site. I will try it when im not logged in and get back to you.

go to the second picture. thats the better picture. also it came up fully for me when i wasnt logged in. trie it again and if it doesnt work i will figure out how to get them on this site.

I’ll get the drawing up for him
