Paint scheme question

I don’t see many UP locos in my area so tell me please… is the flag-paint scheme I saw in this SD-70M something new or old for UP?

also in the top picture, what is the small round “25” sign beside the tracks for?

Paint scheme is several years old and may go back to the first Iraq war. More likely around the time of 9/11. Can’t read what is on the sign so can’t help you with that one.

Thanks Ndbprr, the sign is a simple oval white with the number 25 on it.

That’s commonly known as the Flag scheme. A few units also said Building America next to the flag, but from what I’ve heard it’s being phased out.

The wings on the noses are now also standard on UP again, and all the units are either being delivered with them or are being repainted with wings.

I would suspect that the sign is a speed limit sign. Generaly ones with just numbers are a reminder or temporary restriction.
