Paint Scheme Question

I was wondering if this paint scheme was ever used by the B&O, and if so when? The locomotive is a Athearn B&O SW1500.

From what I saw on fallen flags site, the paint scheme is close to the style used in the fifties, but Baltimore and Ohio was spelled out.mike h.

Thank you for the info.

EMD SW7 and NW2 and some ALCO Lettering yellow, no upper stripe

Here are some prototype photos I was able to find at rrpicturearchives.net:

So do you all thing it would be acceptable to run this locomotive in the 1950s?

No, since it is a bastardized paint scheme, and is wrong for any era. B&O switchers in the 50’s would have had the two stripes like this engine does, but in dulux (a sort of mustardy yellow), with “Baltimore And Ohio” spelled out in dulux. B&O never used white lettering. The three digit number is correct until Jan, 1957, when all B&O diesels were renumbered into four digit series. Without having a diesel roster in front of me, I don’t recall if the number on the locomotive is correct for this model switcher or not. Starting in 1964, B&O diesels were repainted into the “Gothic” scheme that was shared with C&O. That would be the wide frame stripe with “B&O” on the hood in gothic font, sometimes with serifs, sometimes without. The pictures Ken provided above are of this scheme.

Thank you all for the great and in depth information. I realize that it is incorrect and I will make changes to the locomotives in the future.
