Paint scheme

Hi I am new to the forum and have been an armchair modeler for many years. I am wanting to start doing some actual building and I have always been a fan of the F series of Locomotives, so I thought I would try creating one of my favorites. Many years ago MRR had an article about an F9 that was used by I think it was the Burlington Northern and it had a white body with orange stripes and black lettering. Can anyone point me to a picture of that engine? I know Google is my friend in this case, however it seems to be letting me down on this one. Any help would be appreciated.

ASK PAINT SHOP column - April 1993 Model Railroader page 156 has black and white photo and color info on F9 A+ B numbered BN1 and BN2 they were painted Dark Green and Cream with Black trucks

Thanks DSchmitt, The one I am thinking of was creme and orange. Maybe in was not Burlignton. Those however are really good looking engines!

For BN, this is the closest thing that comes to mind from your description:

It’s an E9, not an F. Is that it?

The below engines are F9s, not in the scheme you are seeking but great looking locomotives never the less.

Here is a tiny image of what I am looking for except the red is a more orange color

Gidday Daveo, [#welcome] to the forum.

I think you’re after the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy.

Here’s a link…

Burlington F7 article with color photos

Well, the CB&Q paint is red, not orange. The Burlington ran the Colorado Zephyr in connection with the Rio Grande and the Western Pacific. WP used orange and silver on their F units, so maybe it was one of them you’re thinking of?? Form the side, it would look a bit like the CB&Q scheme…

I think Jabear has it. Thanks all of you so much for your help! Now off to find the 1986 MRR and get a cool F7 to make this thing!

Thanks so much!

Daveo

The actual paint scheme color is red but I have seen some photos of CB&Q F units where the red band has faded to an orange shade from weathering.
