Paint that foam board!!!!!

Guys, get your paint brush out and put on some dungarees and paint that pink and blue foam board. Argh! No excuses. The landscape outside my house isnt pink! Well today its white, but pink and blue is for babies blankets, not train boards.[soapbox]

Hello Paul:

Good timing. I finally painted my foam on Wednesday. My wife just had a couple of rooms repainted and I was able to use some of the extra paint on my layout. I have gone from Martian pink to a nice mud-like tan. I will post pictures later today.

Regards,

John

If I paint it, how can I call it the Blueboard Central? The pictures I post are on an HO layout that my son is building. He is away at school and has not gotten to the point of laying track yet, so dad stepped in and threw down some O gauge track and set out trains and accessories. Eventually the whole thing will have scenery. But for the time being I will have my toys available to play with.

That’s it! Show that board who’s boss! [:)]

Hell I painted my board before I even laid the track. And even then it’s wood and gray homasote.

It takes more than just paint. [;)]

John - Nice pic of the young’un with the controls there - and your layout is looking very good.

Buckeye’s photo shows the before (the Chief’s visit) and the after (the Chief’s visit) which is how he got it landscaped so quick [;)]

Hello Buckeye:

I like the look of your layout. Do you have a rendering of the track plan? Btw, I am still waiting for a copy of your OTTS certificate.

John

You could also use the stuff called “Grassmat” one of the largest sheets they make can cover a 4ft by 8ft board instead of paint.[8D] It looks a bit more realistic. Just a suggestion.

My “new” layout, 2 years in the process as of this June, is made entriely out of foam board (save for the frame) because I wanted something lightweight I could move on my own if necessary.

I waited to paint the surface until my track was down and major scenic things, like hills and mountains were adhered. I didn’t want the paint to serve as a barrier between the blue board and the wood glue. Using 027 track was a mental challenge at first, but what I did was make wood slugs which go beneath the metal ties. I adhererd those with carpet tape, and then could screw in the track. Extra ties and ballast were added and now the track is adhered just fine.

Working with the foam baord has some challenges, but there’s nothing I haven’t overcome yet with a little creativity.

Good idea to remove the poly film from the foam prior to painting or the latex paint will likely come off.

As for me, I have looked at my raw plywood and faded blue scenic “desert” for so long now that I hate to hide it.

John…Have you ever been nominated by Murphy or someone else?

Hello Buckeye:

That is quite a layout. Thank you for sharing. You were going to send me the certificate as a template so that I could create one for ITTS (for us Illinoisans) [;)]

John

John,

That’s a nice little layout you have there! I really like it. Can’t wait to see what you add to it from here on.[tup]

Jim

Hello Jim:

Thank you for the nice comments. My son and I are going to try to add some green to the layout this weekend. We will post pictures of our results.

Regards,

John

John, Glad you liked the layout. It is a work in progress. I sent you an email so that we can take care of the certificates.
