Im getting an airbrush and Im wondering what is a good paint to use for spraying and what do I mix in with the paint to make it sprayable
There are paints you can buy that can be sprayed as is. That said, I really haven’t found any around here. Mostly what I’ve done is use acrylic model paints and thined with windshield wahing fluid.
The Badger Model Flex acryllic doesn’t have to be thinned and the bottle is made to mate-up perfectly with a Badger airbrush. The Testor’s Model Master enamels cover nicely. Usually I use 4 parts paint for every one part of paint thinner: 80%paint, 10% thinner.
OOps! I mean 80% paint and 20% thinner.
Nicknero,
I just finished painting a cab forward tender using my airbrush for the first time today. I have a Badger 150 airbru***hat was given to me on my birthday about 10 years ago! I never used it because I still needed an air compressor. I had always used the regular ‘rattle’ spray cans from floquil and testers with good results. Today I finally realized the benefits of using an airbrush. The only drawback is the extra time cleaning the airbrush and cleaning up. I used Model Flex 16-01 engine black on the tender and love the results! I used Model Flex straight from the bottle with no mixing. Also practice first on an old cheap boxcar or something that’s not of use in your collection. Check and adjust your air pressure on the compressor. (read your air brush manual for their required PSI recomandations). remember one main thing, read all manuals and safety procautions. (I don’t know your age, but if your under age, do not do this without parental supervision!). Keep it Safe! and Have Fun!! [:D]
