Painted into a corner?

I started scenery and am learning allot but… I did not have a real plan for this area. Now I am stuck.

I am going to build a city scape just to the left with building getting taller for about 3 feet then getting lower again. Mu problem is I had rocks and needed something to put dow, but now I cannot decide what to put in this area. I was going to do a continer yard, but don’t know if that will look good. Any suggestions?

The area between the rails is 7 1/2" and about 18" till they start converging.

Space from last rail to loop is about 6"

HELP! Thanks

Container yard would work, be small but would work, you could do a small warehouse or something like that. I think the Walthers Magic Pan Bakery would fit there with a little modification to your track spacing. http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-2915

LION had a bakery on his old layout. It was the “Miracle Baking Company”.

The sign read “If it’s Fresh… It’s a Miracle!”

What you already have are team tracks where you can model a common unloading platform between tracks. See Wikipedia Team Track and Team Track Platforms.

– Maybe even move the inner track, if need be, to accommodate both an unloading platform between tracks plus a small freight station.

– Perhaps make a parking lot for truck trailers, or; a processing center between the team tracks and the outer mainlines. You can add trucks, trailers, farmer’s pickup truck’s, a crane over two tracks and the unloading platform, etc.

– How about a fuel oil distribution center including an oil tank or tanks?

I also think considering moving the spur tracks is worthwhile. That way, you keep all your options open in terms of what could fit.

For instance, shift the spurs towards the unsenicked edge of the layout on the right and it opens up the room in the middle. I would suggest some sort of taller structure(s) here, as this would provide a visual break with the area of the layout that has scenery. Then again, if you want continuity with that scenery, then something low like a container yard may work better for you.

I am in the “less is more” camp. Therefore I like the team track idea. You can change what is going on there when ever you feel like looking at something different or have a different type of rolling stock go in.

Thanks guys!

I have moved right and opened up the area. I am going to do an old but still operating container yard.

This also gave me an idea for a good little “eye catcher”

I saw something like that on an old layout, exept it was a Fish company. [D)]

I had an area like this once and continued the wall across the end of the layout to help hide the loop. Then I put a factory at the city leevl with a freight elevator to the loading platforms. If a produce warehouse one track could be incoiming and one outgoing. Same thing with a post office or almost any industry that received and shipped by rail, You could even put a city station on the upper level and run commuter trains into the stub tracks
