I have a Proto 1000 F3A that I want to put brass hand grabs on. What is the best kind of paint to use? It is in the old CN green and yellow scheme and I have the color I want to use in a water based paint but I’m not sure if that will work.
The paint you have should be all right, but you should probably prime the grabs first. Just use a can of automotive primer and a light coat should doit. Spray one side,flip em over and do the other. BILL
You can prime them if you want, I install them first, thrn hand paint them, (Polyscale or Modelflex), usually 2 coats with lighter colors - no primer. Tip: Slip the corner of a piece of paper under the grab to keep paint off the body.
do you have the Tichy drop-grabs? Thats what i use… not sure if they’re brass but they look the same color.
i’ve been using Polly Scale, and it sticks just fine. The only problem is that is can come off if you like, scratch it or like nick it w/ a fingernail or something, which requires minor touch-up work. i’ve been thinking about going to Floquil, or trying to microwave the painted ones so that the paint cures and seals better.
