Painting Brass

Just bought my first brass loco and need some tips on painting it.

Thanks for taking the time to post Alvie. I will search for the book on ebay. Dale.

Hi Dale,

The book Alvie recommended is available on the “Shopping” section of this Web site.

I’ll also take the liberty of recommending two MODEL RAILROADER articles of my own: “Brass GP50 in Santa Fe colors,” April 1984, page 114; and “Painting a brass steam locomotive,” November 1986, page 146.

Both of those describe painting with Floquil paints, but I use Polly Scale acrylics now because they’re safer and allow easy cleanup with soap and water. Except for that, pretty much everything I explain in those article is still how I do it today.

If you don’t have the back issues you can order photocopies of those articles from customerservice@kalmbach.com.

Good luck,

Andy
