Is it a good idea to put a coat of paint on the foam board (pink or blue) before you start any work laying track? If so, what color and type (laytex, etc)?
Thanks!

Where from? Hobby shop or Home depot? Does it matter how you apply it?

Just go to Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menard’s, Ace Hardware, etc. and get some cheap brown latex and roll it on. You may need a couple of coats. It makes a big difference in how your layout looks until you get to finish all your scenery. IIRC, I used Menard’s “Alamo Brown.”
I brush on crockery tan from Wal-mart. Make sure it is the flat wall paint and not gloss. Sprinkle on ground foam, colored saw dust, ect while it is still wet and save a step. Good luck.
Don’t forget to take a look at the returned paint department – you might get a deal and since the point is to cover the foam color but then add scenery etc the fact that the paint doesn’t match across the whole layout does not mean much.

depending,on what color you want ,ask the paint dept., in what ever store you are buying your paint, that maybe they could mix paint to look like dirt color,or maybe you can shade it with real dirt, don’t be affraid to make a mistake,it might look better that way & HAVE LOT OF FUN…
