I need suggestions on the best technique and colors to use to paint mountains. I like the grayish tones for the rocks, cliffs, and slopes of mountains. I have the following colors to use, yellow ochre, raw umber, burnt umber, raw sienna, burnt sienna, black and white. Any help is very much appreciated.

Google images will pull up good pics of the area you’re interested in painting, then just select your colors based on that. All of the colors you’ve suggested may fit your area, or you may have to tweek them a bit, depending on where you’re modeling.
Might want to get a few shades of grey for the rocks too. I’m going to assume your painting scenery and not back drops. I found thinning the colors with some water and making a wash works better than straight paint. I use all craft paint for my scenery.
I don’t seal my plaster or Sculptimold first. I find the washes soak into the plaster and give a nice uneven effect.
As mentioned, look for images of the area your trying to model first.
Good luck!
