Hello, im wondering how to paint my track, do i have to like just spray the sides of the track or do i spray the whole thing, and if i do how do i keep it off the rails, cauz knowing me ide do it and i wouldnt get power to the track anymore, anyone know???
also, i put in a post about how to put in under the table switches in when ur using foam as i a base do you have to cut out that section??? not to sure,
to paint track, first put tape or something similar on the points of the switches, where they touch the immovable, or “fixed” rails. Some people use a thin coat of oil for this, and also put oil on the tops of the rails. Just put a drop on a rag or a paper towel and run it along the rail top. Not too much, if you can see it, it’s too much.
then paint the ties from the top, with either an airbrush, spray cans, or a brush. Paint the rails from an angle, so that, if you’re spraying them, the paint gets on both rails. Then, after it’s dry, wipe off the tops of the rails with a track-cleaning eraser or something similar. Also wipe off the switch points (the movable rails on the turnouts) where they touch the immovable, or fixed, rails, and the spot where the points touch the fixed rails. If you put oil on these parts, this will be a little easier.
Some guys take a wet rag, and wipe the paint off before it dries.
