painting or repainting a diesel ,your take ?

sorry all this is a copy of a post…sorry again

Jerry, repainting and detailing a car or locomotive can be very satisfying if approached properly. I would recommend getting an airbrush and compressor and doing some practicing first. Get some cheap plastic boxcars at a local train show or swap meet, or scrounge garage sales for them.

Use the cheap cars to practice your masking techniques, paint types, etc., to get comfortable with them. You don’t want to jack up a P2K AB set, even if you did get them cheap. I would suggest that if you’re going for the WP colors particularly, practice a lot. You might find that the orange won’t cover well over silver, or vice versa. And don’t forget to strip the old paint first, or the outlines will show through the new paint…

Also, plan your project carefully. You might want to hold off on some of the details (e.g.: handrails) until the painting is complete.

Good luck with your projects, and keep us posted!
