I started to paint an SD60 CSX bright future colors. Started with gray and it came out perfect. Moved on to blue and came out perfect also, Until i removed the tape. Turns out I sprayed the model upside down and in a few spots the blue leaked under the tape in the little slots between the doors. Well here is the problem. Should I strip it down and start over, or tape the blue and respray the gray? If I start over how do I remove the paint? Anyone have this problem? What did you do? Joe A.[:(]
There’s a product called micro mask.(I think that’s the name) It’s a brush on product that fills in all those little slots and crevases.Micro Mark tools sells it.
(I know what a bummer it is to pull that tape back and see that.)Can you touch up those spots with a fine brush?
I’d probably cheat a little. If the spots are small, you could probably get away with lightly touching up the grey. By the time you add a little weathering, the “repairs” will become less noticeable.
what i do is use two pieces of masking tape and take the time to use the blunt end of a hobby knife or small screwdriver and make sure the tape is pressed down against the model very well…let the paint dry before removing the tape will also help…another thing is to set up your airbrush with a thin spray pattern so that the paint is just about dry when it hits the model…a really thick, wet, spray pattern will run into places you don’t want it to go…you can probably retape it and paint it over again…chuck
I have had this same problem in the past. What I did was use a sharp knife and carefully scrape away the overspray. My permanant solution to this problem is as follows. After I tape off the model I re-spray the tape edge with the color that I just taped off to seal the tape edge. After that paint dries I shoot the color I want. When the tape is removed I get a clean crisp line with no overspray. Also, when taping, be sure to not stretch the tape. It will follow the curves and other irregularities better. Also make sure you burni***he tape edges down.

danpik-That re-spray idea is a great tip! I hadn’t thought of that. THANKS!
I touched these spots up and it looks like a patch job from an other rail road. I saw one just like it the other day in raritan center nj with all the csx lettering removed.
I think I will try the respraying idea next time. thanks
Ok now I want to start over! How do I remove the paint? Is that possible?
Dan,
This is what I used to do, but the build up masking line could end up too thick at times. I switched to using 3M fine line automotive masking tape. This product is vinyl and can be burnished into almost any crack/ detail resulting in a really crisp line with no creap under. This tape is found at auto paint suppliers- ask a local body shop where to find one.
