I have a Walthers mine kit, with lots of windows. How do I paint the frames of the windows, there are six glass pieces in each window.
If this kit is the one with transparent windows and frames molded as one piece, it has been discussed a number of times before (I’m sure I’ve seen a print article or two on it)
Anyway, I believe standard procedure is to use the window as a stamp, lightly pressing it into wet (frame colored) paint on scrap styrene, so that the raised frame/sash/mullions pick up the color, and the panes remain clear (or reverse it and stamp the window/frame unit from above, getting pretty much the same results).
The usually say dry brushing the frame and mullions is kinda tedious and prone to error (i.e. painting the window panes).
I used a black magic marker to highlight the window frames. Just be careful to hit only the high spots. I painted the mine a medium gray and the black frames of the windows are complimentary.
I want to thank those who answered my question about painting the windows on the mine kit. I was slow answering because I changed by internet to DSL, and had trouble until today getting it up and running. Again thanks so much for your input, I really appreciate it. I have been out of hobby for about 30 years, and am not used to the new kits. On my old pike (1970s) I scratched built all my buildings. So this is new to me.
Thanks again,
Robert
If It was me I would peel the “glass” off, then paint the windows then reapply or replace the glass.

Not sure if that’s possible, if this is the kit I’m thinking of (“New River” [?]) - I believe the windows are molded as one transparent plastic piece, with the frame/mullions being represented by raised portions of the piece. I think the kit designer’s idea was to mask off each pane and spray the remaining unmasked raised portions the window frame color, but since there are so many windows with rather small panes, this obviously is impractical. Therefore, stamping or dry brushing etc are the only practical solutions, and I think I’ve seen in various reviews of this kit suggestions for stamping the raised window portions, as I detailed in my first post above.
