I did a Yahoo ‘image’ search on “Pan Am boxcar” and came up with many pics of the real thing!!
Here is a couple pictures I took of two Pan Am cars last year.
I didn’t get any pictures unfortunately, but I did see a prototype in Norfolk Southern’s Conway Yard this past spring. It looked pretty nice compared to the mostly drab boxcars seen today.

I have no pictures, but I’ve seen some Pan Am boxcars in the rails near where I live and have an Athearn boxcar. The oldest was painted sometime last year when Guilford changed its name to Pan Am and some of the cars are already starting to fade badly. They are nice looking, though.
I’ve only seen photos on the net, but this past summer I saw cars at Rigby yard and Danville Junction
As the photos show, these are real cars. Pan Am Railways is the new name of Guilford Transportation. You will notice the reporting marks on the cars in the photos is MEC.

I don’t know if it’s odd or if there is regular freight flowing from Pan Am/Guilford down to here, but I see these Pan Am boxcars all the time in CSX freights down here in Virginia.
Here’s another:
from what i’ve seen, most of the major manufacturers do thier homework pretty well, so it is pretty safe to assume that there are cars with those car numbers
