Panama Canal Railway

Hello! and Merry Christmas!

I am looking for more information on the Panama Canal Railway for modeling purposes. I’ve found a few websites with pictures of locomotives and passenger cars. I have not found anything like a map or pictures of the yards and port areas. If anyone knows a website or physical place to call and obtain this information, I would be grateful. Thanks, and please share all that you know!

Shane,

You might try the Kansas City Southern website, www.kcsi.com. Click on the Panama Canal RR logo for info and links that might be of help to you.

A book about the very early days of the railroad that might be helpful is:

PANAMA: A Personal Record of Fory-six Years Along the Panama Railroad Line
by Tracy Robinson

Also, check your library for:
Path Between The Seas : The Creation of the Panama Canal
by David McCullough. It’s a pretty comprehensive book on the building of the canal but I don’t recall how much railroad history was included.

Email me if you want links where to order a used copy of either. (I do not have one in my shop.)
