paper grass mat

I have an old Life-Like paper grass mat that I would like to replace on an old 4x8 layout. Torn in some places, not that realistic. I have some other scenery (dirt road, some fine turf from a scenery pack) cemented on. How do I go about replacing it? Or should I just put all the fine turf and stuff on top of the mat?

IF the grass mat is stuck down really well, it might be easier to just glue down some fresh ground foam and trees and stuff to cover the tears. However for a 4x8 layout if the look of the mat is bothering you it doesnt cost much or take too long to remove it and just buy a couple of shakers of ground foam and replace the whole thing. Its up to you!

by the way, [#welcome]!

I would put down a layer of Ground goop over everything. Make it more uneven than the original.

I would then add the ground foam from a few shakers. some trees, bushes and trash. Variety is the key to a realistic look.

Be “daring”, it usually makes better scenery than “careful”.

Agreed. If it’s still glued down good, you can just add grass and scenry on top of it. If it’s not, maybe you could take a razor knife and cut out around the roads and features you’d like to keep and just reglue those down. Then add new grass, etc…
