Paragon 2 Cab Fwd. How to Safely Remove Smokebox Cover?

I just received a Paragon 2 Cab Forward A4/5. I’d like to permanently turn off the smoke unit.

The manual says that the heater/smoke unit is either behind the smokebox or “on some models” in the cab.

The cab hatch pops off easily so I looked in there lst. I can’t see a slider switch (that’s what I"m looking for, correct?) Just panel/lever details.

I tried to pry off the smokebox cover with my fingernail but it’s too tight at the seam and actually didn’t

feel like it was going to pry off easily so I stopped.

If you own one of these beautiful models could you please advise what method/tool to use?

A hammer shaped magnetic switch key came with the packaging and I’m assuming that’s for resetting the decoder ala Atla HH660s. Does this “thing” instead, turn off the smoke unit?

I DO realize that F7 turns off the smoke unit and it does, but if I get a brief short at a turn out or my soon to be powered frogs, the Loco’s sound kicks on for a second and so does the smoke unit!

I have a no window no ventilation “walk in closet” layout room so smoke, as cool as it looks is out.

Thanks!

Jim

After another manual re-read, I see that pages after the cab/smokehouse mentions, there is a smoke switch under the loco. I just looked and don’t see it. Am I blind or what? If someone has a part number to refer to that’ll be extra helpful. I’m seeing the smoke house door as part # 3 and the smoke unit/heater part #20 is that right?

I’m just not seeing a slide switch anywhere on the parts list sheet.

I’ll look in the boiler/smoke box once I find out how to get something in the seam without marring the paint.

Thanks again,

Jim

Hey, this entire thread was all ME[:O] I must be the only one who bought one of these thangs [;)] Anyhoo, finally gave up and called the tech dept. at Broadway Limited.

They moved the switch that used to be in the smokebox that used to be in the cab (“on some models”) to a location under the boilder but between the boiler and chassis. It’s pretty hard to see it even when you (finally) know where it is! Anyway finally test running it without a gas mask in my windowless room.

BLI was very helpful and super nice. The Cab Foward had no other issues and I’ve already run it on a friend’s layout. It even inspired me to ballast my entire visible main line on the left side of the room.

Hope this helps someone else if they can’t find the smoke switch.

Over and out,

Jim
