I drove from near St.Paul down to Winona and back saturday. There was at least 4 if not 5 trains just parked and no sign of any crew. Is this from clearing out the yard by Daytons Bluff?
Partially, yes. Also due to a lack of yard capacity to switch the trains with St. Paul Yard. close.
Wouldn’t this also have to do with the flooding that’s starting to make its presence known along the upper Mississippi? I believe that both UP and CP are now (or will shortly) make use of alternate routing for Twin Cities traffic.
[:-^] I think it would be that flooding is why they are on high ground. ~~ guess diesels don’t swim well , water and axle bearings don’t mix well either. Just thinking .

…and traction motors too.
First crest appears to have passed at St. Paul with no significant railroad flooding. The river level has dropped since a peak last night.
