Part of my new layout... What do you think????

I didnt like me other layout and this one is more appealing to me. The upper part will be a coal yard/mine. I dont like how the one track is so close to the edge but I can mold a small hill to take care of that. I will have to do some touching up on the roadbed and a few other places. I’m not to worried about how it looks now, I am more into scenery. I will have about 5 switches, and a couple of yards as well. There also will be a few tunnels. I will try to get more pics once I get more done. Let me know what you think. I am sure I will get some good tips for you guys as well.

Way back when I expanded my N-scale layout by adding an upper level mine. But put the upper level on the opposite end of the layout from where I broke off the main. That way the grade wasn’t nearly so steep.

I tested the curve a few times and it went fine. I might just put a few coal cars there and hardly ever make the engine go up that way. I think thats what happened to the last layout I tried. It was way to steep.

i think it will come out good just keep us posted please! :]

Plan looks OK, but the grade is steep - 4 1/4" in about 5 or 6 '![?] You say you’ve run a couple of cars down the grade, have you tried getting a loco up with a few cars? When budget allows, flex track is better than sectional - otherwise good work![8D]

Looking good. Just one question on the first photo–how close is that curve to the wall? Reason I ask is to wonder if you have clearance if you ever run long cars or a big steamer (or diesel, according to your preference).

Keep it up and keep us posted.

The wall is about 2 ft away from the track. I am able to walk between the layout and the wall. I think the flex track is a good idea as well. I will try to keep you all posted. You know how much $$$$$ this kinda hobby is. Thats about the only bad thing about this hobby. Thanks for all of the feedback.

Heres a few new pics. Finally got all my track layed down. Engine runs pretty good. Just need to clean a few areas.

I just have a hunch that the steep grade and the layout could spell “T R O U L B E” in the future, but I think if plenty of test runs are ran and the track is well maintained, you should come out OK.

Layout looks MUCH better - now that I see the UP loco!![tup][tup][8D]

It would look better as a 2-8-0 in UP colors tho.

Sorry to say but the UP is just a tester. Sorry. I am a NS guy. I’ve had the engine for awhile now. Its a good engine, runs great. I am saving some money for the NS hoppers, engine, etc. I guess I’ll put the UP back on the shelf. [8D]
