partly cloudy

there is only a single reference to ‘Tag Cloud’ in the FAQs (basically letting you know where it is), but i still cannot figure out how to access the alphabet past “K”(-Line). i’m sure there’s got to be some Marx tag somewhere(?) …but how do you get to them?

cheers…gary

Does look like another bug in the software but you can type in tags directly. Looks like I might also need to go in and clean up the overall list again to purge tags that are not very useable…

i’ll bite… directly where?
search doesn’t seem to pick them up.

thanks…gary

Another bizarre item I have spotted in the cloud for months is “Frackville” that seems to be indelibly placed there. I thought the cloud gimmick was supposed to represent recent posts, while I too, have given up on a Marx tag…though you would think it would be there. Maybe it moved to Frackville. Have you seen the pop up list of tags? Er…where does this go? “Big boy?” [*-)] …Im outta here before I get dizzier. Yoiks.

i did some investigating and it turns out “Frackville” was the subject of (and a tag put on) 12 postings between 24 May 2009 and 6 August 2011. i still haven’t found out exactly how to access the tag search, but notice that it is literally included in the URL, so if you go to…

http://cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/tags//default.aspx

where you replace with the Cloud Tag you’re looking for, that will work, too.

unfortunately people posting messages also need to use tags for them to work, and looking at the tag for “Marx” there are only 7 posts that were tagged by the authors going back to Nov 2008 (even including a tag i stuck in the last response here just test it out), though i’m sure there have been many more postings related to Marx items over that time.

probably one of those ideas that looked good on paper.

so i did a little more experimenting with “Clouds”…

there is a string that was recently started, “Marx Tinplat Trains - A Guide by Collectors”, that i have been contributing to, so i went and tagged about 30 posts i made to that string, all with at least the word “Marx” and others that i qualified with a few other tags.

i waited a bit to let the system gather in all that information, went back to the Marx cloud tag…

http://cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/tags/Marx/default.aspx

and here were the results…

  1. tags going back to 2008 (all 6 of them, 5 of which are over a year old) were still displayed.
  2. seven of the ~30 tags i had recently entered also appeared.
  3. that was it… there was no “more…” option, no page 1 of nn.

it seems as though tags max out at 16 pointers.
even when i tried to force a link to a specific tag arrangement i set up, it could not find that message.

this has got to be the most useless features i’ve ever seen implemented.
have a nice day…
