parts from norfolks steam programe that we thought were long lost.

Well a very interesting thing just happened today. On the fire up the 611 on face book was a picture of a crate box saying arch bricks. It also said Norfolk southern steam program 1994. You know what this means. That the parts of 1218 might have survived. They might be in the where house that had the crate of arch bricks. This might be a the Start to a bigger mystery.

Maybe only some of the parts survived? Think about it, if all of the parts were kept, someone would have known, and there would not have been so many reports of the parts being thrown away. MAYBE a few boxes of parts survived, enough to not be noticed, but all (Or at least most of them) surviving? No way.

Long Live the N&W!!! Long Live Steam!!!

Chances are these were kept in a tender simply because they had no significant resale or scrap value. I don’t see why it’s worth a thread. The fate of a lot of 1218’s components are well documented.

Maybe a few parts…but no way the flues and super heater tubes were kept this long without anyone noticing them… they’re too big.

But super heaters and flues are meant to be thrown away and replaced anyway…

And even though we’re afraid to say it, we all know they’ll bring back 1218, eventually.

Long Live the N&W!!! Long Live Steam!!!

And please don’t forget that 1522 is waiting, everyone!

Will 1218 ever come back? Of course it will. Why?

Like Mount Everest, because it’s there.

If only there was enough money for that to be said for every steamer…

Keep making donations to the fireup611 folks, they are gonna need dollars. And for 1218…a BUNCH of dollars…lets hope someday she’ll steam again.
