I have some Roundhouse HO 34 foot Overton coaches that I am going to use on a logging/mining branch line and would like to put interiors in them. Can anyone help me with what they looked like inside and where I might find the parts to go in them, i doubt if there are any kits so it will probably be a form of scratch building. Should I lay a plank floor in them and where would I get the demensional material?
I am still working on the track plan and will post it for review as soon as finished, just figured out XTRKCAD, what a program!
Thanks for any help you can provide and yes I did a forum search. We have a great bunch of modelers on this forum and I spend most of my time here reading, great info.
The Palace Car Company has interior detail parts. They probably aren’t the right era for you, but you might start with these and modify them to make them more appropriate:
As for the floor, think about just printing one out on your computer. I have “wood floors” in a few of my structures, but they’re just downloads I printed on cardstock, cut out and glued down. Somebody posted a link to this site a few days back. They have a number of different wood floor textures you might like.
Look under “Park Bench” at Walthers. If you took one of these and cut it in the middle, you would have 2 bench seats with the ornate end-work, butted up agains the outer wall of the car. Look at the Campbell or Scale Structures models.
Interiors for the “Overton” cars are easy. I used Precision Scale Company(585-333121) plastic seats in the combine and the coach. The combine also had a bulkhead with a door added to separate the baggage section from the passenger area. The cars would be heated by a coal stove in one cornor. There is a blanked window where the stove would go. Across from or diagonally across the car from the stove would be a toilet. I freelanced the interior of the obs car using parlour car seats from Palace Car Company(548-500236) as well as a stove and small lounge area and a toilet. The train is in DRGW Silverton colours. Clear styrene was used for ‘glass’ in the windows and green clear styrene was used in the clerestory windows. Passengers were then added before the roofs were cemented on. Grandt Line supplied the stoves(300-5008) and the door(300-5070) for the bulkhead in the combine. Sheet styrene was used to build the walls around the washrooms. Red Cap supplied the sinks and toilets in the washrooms.
Thanks for all the help so far. Mr SP, do you have any pictures? All the web sights and part numbers will be a big help. I think I will be ordering parts today and will post pictures as soon as possible.
