Passenger car interiors?

Good Day!,

Just wondering if anyone knows where i can secure some passenger car interiors. I have a set of NPP Brass Hiawatha (1939) cars and wanted to add interior details. Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

I think IHC makes passenger car interiors, but I’m not sure if they are the proper interiors for your cars. You’d have to find out.

You can get the IHC passenger car interiors which come molded in tan. The dining, observation, and sleeping car interiors look decent. The coach…so-so.

Alternative: Red Cap makes some very nice seat kits. Neat facet of Red Cap is that the seats are actual models of the style used from the 30s thru the 60s. There are several different styles. Price is not bad either, but higher than IHC. Check the Walthers Catalog.

As for colors: I have a photo of a Hiawatha Skytop interior on my computer at work. When I return, I’ll check it out and post the color combo here if it’s helpful to you.

Good call Antonio. And give these guys a try. I have worked with their interiors (they do the interiors for the TSP Hi Level cars) and they are really nice and simple.

Thanks Guys!

Your information is EXACTLY what is was looking for!!

Thanks CSmith, helpful as always!

That’s a very Cool link!! Those seats are a huge leap over the IHC coach seat kits! The prices are reasonable. I’m adding the link to “My Favorites”.

On the Rivorossi cars that I’m currently restoring, I’m keeping the dining and sleeping car IHC kits as they don’t look bad, but for the coaches I’m seriously considering ordering the “Palace” seats since I want to install lighting.

The “floors” with these interior kits are scribed to aid in the placement of the seats and partitions. The seats require a bit of cleaning (flash), but it is well worth the effort. The Preiser seated passengers fit perfect in the seats without modification as well.

Oren, I found the photo.

Hiawatha Skytop Lounge Car.

Single row of swiveling seats next to the windows.
Color: (approximate) - reddish brown, very similar to the boxcar red used on Great Northern Railway 40 ft. boxcars after WWII. The armrests are wooden and are a reddish oak color.

The seatbacks have white cloths on the top, as was common back then.

Glass Observation section: One Row of seats along the curved glass bottom. Color appears a dark maroon, very similar to the one used by Wisconsin Central.

Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot ,Antonio! I have the book “The Hiawatha Story” by Jim Scribbins, but the photos are in black and white. I am in the process of building the 1939 consist with ribbed sides and a F7 4-6-4. This is a picture of the engine that i have. It is not painted but the passenger cars are.

That Palace Car Co. looks really good !! I have a set of Rock Island “Rocket” cars that need interiors, I think their stuff would do the trick very nicely.

Pikestuff makes somewhat generic passenger car seats in a variety of colors. This photo is from the Walthers catalog website

[Well I see the cut and paste from the walthers website does not work. It is easy enough to find.]

I might point out that passenger car interiors are not clearly visible outside the car. Thus the mere representation of interior walls seats and lighting is often enough

For coach and parlor seats, I strictly use Red Cap Line, for the lounge seats, I use PSC and for dinning tables I use Palace Car and PSC (UP Dome Diner.) I stay away from Pike Stuff and I don’t like Palace Car’s coach and parlor seats.

I just finished a Rio Grande dome car (Con-Cor) doing some kit-bashing on Red Cap interiors–and they’re FANTASTIC! Really good and well-detailed. I highly recommend them.
