Passengers at Rochelle

I don’t know if they were occupied, but at 11:28 CDT this morning, I saw a string of UP passenger equipment being shoved west on the UP main on the Rochelle webcam. They should show up on the recent pictures pages in a few minutes, I would guess.

Ah, the things you see when you haven’t got your camera!

Must’ve been an engine on both ends of the train, Chuck, as the webcam caught one on the front end of it. I seem to remember something about Operation Lifesaver Specials running- maybe this was one of them?

Here’s the picture from the web cam referenced above.

Unless I’m mistaken that’s a TOFC train there…

I think the picture of the correct train was #18 when Jim posted it–unfortunately, whatever photo is #18 at the time will show, and our passenger train has departed.

That makes sense. I couldn’t stick around to wait for the pictures to post on the recent images pages, unfortunately, and it didn’t seem like the rear unit was necessarily even powered. Of course, Rochelle looked pretty breezy this morning, so unless the unit was really smoking it is unlikely I would have detected exhaust.

I hope that somebody comes up with more concrete information on what they were doing heading west.

…Guess I was one of the lucky ones, as I caught the pictures of the passenger units passing by. Small center dome on one in the pic. I’m referring to “recent Pictures”.

Yep, Carl is right…when I posted the photo it was indeed the correct one…not any more though…oh well.

Union Pacific is sponsoring Operation Lifesaver trains out of Chicago area on 10-31 and 11-2. The 10-31 trains ran from downtown Chicago out to the Global 3 facility at Rochelle with an SD70M/AC44 bracketing about six cars including a dome. The train on 11-2 will run from Proviso up to the Milwaukee area and return and then head west on the main out of Chicago late in the afternoon as it heads back to Council Bluffs.

Nothing more than that.
